Get your jump drive! Go to the computer where you have installed Shorthand and plug the drive into the USB port. Open Windows Explorer and go to your computer C drive. The default installation of Shorthand is in C:\Program Files. Shorthand 10 is in a folder called SH10; older versions are in a folder called Shorthand for Windows. Select the correct folder, right click and select “Copy” from the drop-down list.
Stay in Windows Explorer and go to the “My computer” and find the removable disk in the left-hand tool bar. Open the disk folder. Unless you’re using it for other files, it should be empty. To paste, right click in the window and select “Paste” from the drop-down list.
Alternatively, you may copy only the shx.exe (x being the version number) file, the license file (*.lic) and your dictionary files.
The safest way to remove a flash drive is to right click on your tray icon, find the “safely remove hardware and eject media,” and right click on it. You’ll see the flash drive listed. Click on it and you’ll get a message from Windows when you can safely remove it. Remove the flash drive from your computer.
To run on another computer, take the flash drive and plug it into a USB port on the computer you want to use. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the flash drive, select the shx.exe file and double click to run it. Shorthand should start and be ready to use.
